Golf Course Architect

Noria’s architect is Steve Forrest from Hills & Forrest International Golf Course Architects. Their reputation has been built from a tradition of highly successful, widely acclaimed golf courses, Their mission is “to create memorable golf experiences” and Noria does not disappoint.

Designing courses for over 30 years, Hills & Forrest have designed well over 100 courses all over the world. Many of their designs are award winning such as Oitavos Dunes (Portugal), Half Moon Bay (California, USA), Sand Golf Club (Sweden) and Quail Hollow (Mississippi, USA) to name just a few.

From the Architect

The vision for Noria was to create a traditional Moroccan village that celebrated the architecture and landscapes of The South of Morocco.  These landscapes include mountains, fields, desert, oasis, orchards, villages and palaces.  The legend of Isli and Tislit, Morocco’s version of Romeo and Juliet, also became part of the marketing story.

Therefore, the golf course design incorporates these various elements into the overall plan.  There are three primary zones—1) the olive orchards and lavender fields on holes 1 through 7, 2) the desert on holes 11 through 13, and 3) the formal pools and architecture found along the central axis that runs north from the clubhouse.  The two lovers, Isli and Tislet, represented by the lake on hole 14 and a basin in the Village of Isli to the north, are forever linked by a water feature on hole 15.

The Golf Course Architect’s Favorite Holes

Most Beautiful Hole on the Landscape
The par-5 fifth flows beautifully from tee to green with a nice combination of strategic bunkers.

Most Colorful Hole
When the lavender is in bloom, the par-3 sixth is gorgeous.

Most Unique Hole
The par-3 eighth.  Where else can one find a reflecting pool and a biarritz green topped by a Moroccan bell tower?

The Crowd Pleaser
Everyone seems to love the “sunken” character of the par-3 twelfth.

Most Intriguing Hole
The shades and shadows of the varied bunkering of the seventeenth against the backdrop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains is awesome.

Fantastic Finishes
The visual spectacle presented by the ninth and eighteenth holes paralleling the reflecting pool with the spectacular clubhouse and dramatic mountains in the background is definitely special.
